Wedding dress alterations FAQs
1. How much will wedding dress alterations cost?Â
Every dress is unique and will require different work to be completed so pricing varies. On average a bride will spend £125-£200 with us.
For a price guide tailored to your dress please send us a photo of you in your dress and a rough idea of the alterations you would like completed to info@dressmakerscorset.co.uk. Or if you'd like a better idea based on the silhouette of your dress then check out our rough price guide section.
2. How many fittings will I need?
This depends on the alterations you need. On average only 2 fittings are needed but sometimes a third appointment is required.
3. What happens at the first fitting?
During your first fitting we will ask you to put your dress on and discuss the alterations you would like. We will start with the bodice before looking at your hem. The alterations will be pinned in place and a list of the work needed to be done will be made. Once you're happy with the alterations we will go through the paper work, in which you will receive the cost of the work done to your bridal gown. A 50% deposit is taken and the dress is left with us to complete the sewing.
4. What happens at the second fitting?
When you return for your second fitting you will put your dress on to make sure your dress is fitting beautifully. Once you are happy with the alterations the remaining balance is paid and you are able to take your dress home ready for the big day!

If your dress needs some more work we will book you in for a third fitting a week or two later.
5. What should I bring to my wedding dress fittings?
For both of your fittings it is very important that you bring the shoes and the underwear your are going to wear with the dress. Both of these items will affect the alterations of your dress.

If you have items you would like sewn on to your dress, like sleeves or belts, please bring them so we can pin them in place.
6. When will my alteration appointments be in relation to my wedding?
We advise that your first fitting is 8-6 weeks before the big day with the second fitting being 3-4 weeks later.
Our fittings are held on Saturdays but if you'd prefer a weekday please let us know!
7. Can I bring friends and family to my alteration appointments?
Yes! We welcome bringing people to the fittings with you, however please limit this to 2-3 people. Unfortunately we don't advise bringing young children with you as you will need to stand still for the appointment.
8. How do you work out the Price of my alterations?
The price of wedding dress alterations are based on an hourly rate and the amount of time we think your alterations will take based on average times of past wedding dresses. This is why prices vary dress to dress.
9. Can I have a price estimate for my wedding dress alterations
Of course! Just send us a photo of your wedding dress, to info@dressmakerscorset.co.uk with a list of the adjustments you would like made. We will then send you a guide range for the cost of the alterations.
Please note that this will just be a guide and you will receive the total cost in your first appointment.
